Engineer clays "Framilite"
Framilite®
General info
FRAMILITE® — is the serie of engineer clays / organoclays produced by GEOKOM from enriched bentonites and sepiolites which are:
- nanostructuring rheological additives, thickeners and stabilizers with adjustable thixotropy, carriers of special properties. In general, the design of the rheological system is the determination of an effective balance between the working properties of such regulators, including the ability to thicken and stabilize coatings during application, prevent difficult-to-mix deposits during storage, in combination with good manufacturability, fluidity and plasticity, covering and leveling properties. , resistant to splashing, dripping, syneresis, etc.;
- effective functional modifiers of composite materials that affect the strength and viscoelastic, barrier and incombustible, and other technological and operational properties of filled polymers..
Bentonite, or montmorillonite, refers to layered clays of the smectite type: (M +) 0.33 (Al1.67Mg0.33) Si4O10 (OH) 2.nH2O, where M + = Na +, K +, Mg2 +, Ca2 + (Brindley & Brown, 1980). The particles of natural bentonite have a regular structure and shape of plates 0.92 nm thick and up to 1000 nm long with a maximum surface area of up to 834 m2 / g (Utracki, 2004), which compose the members. Due to uncompensated isomorphic substitutions in the crystal lattice, the planes of the particles carry a negative charge, somewhat leveled by the positive charge of the faces; in general, the negative surface charge is balanced by replaceable cations, mainly calcium and sodium, which are located in the interlayers between the plates. The interlayers are able to osmotically increase during hydration / solvation ("swell"), accompanied by the stratification of packs and the formation of ordered colloidal gels of the honeycomb type with limited mobility of the system components (including the liquid phase within the cells), with the destruction of this spatial structure at a sufficient shear stress and its restoration every time such influence ceases. The rate of hydration is usually determined by the amount of applied mechanical and thermal energy. For effective solvation, polar activators or other methods of enhancing the delamination of clays when introduced into solventborne application systems are usually additionally required. Thus, a high surface area of bentonite particles is available, especially after ion exchange with large-sized cations of organic substances or intercalation of polymers, for micro-reinforcement, structuring and stabilization of aqueous or organic suspensions with reversible and renewable properties, as well as for functional modification of composites.

FRAMILITE®B
FRAMILIT®B engineering clays (TU 2164-019-40705684-2007) are rheology modifiers with varying degrees of thickening capabilities, pseudoplasticity and attitude to ionic interactions, pH of the medium and temperature. Here the unique ability of smectite clays to exfoliate in water is realized and developed and, through its own structuring, to control the rheology of the water system in which they are used. Mineral-based thickening thixotropes, in contrast to cellulose and associative analogs, are resistant to oxidation, bio- and thermal degradation, to a lesser extent depend on the activity of other components of the system, do not contribute to a decrease in the weather resistance and water resistance of coatings, an increase in moisture absorption and, which is especially important, - very economical. The FRAMILIT®B brand range allows the formation of rheological systems with the fulfillment of various requirements for viscosity (ability to thicken coatings) and thixotropy (control of flow and sagging), counteracting the deposition of fillers and pigments and, thus, expands the possibilities and ranges of recipe searches and effective solutions:
- low-viscous profile of rheology
- FRAMILITE®В11 (white color, 1500-1800сП/2%, 6 c/min, Brookfield DV-2+Pro);
- FRAMILITE®В111-Bio (with additional microbilogical resistance, white color, 1400-1600сП/2%);
- FRAMILITE®В21 (white color, 2000-2500сП/2%);
- moderate-viscous profile of rheology FRAMILITE®В31 (white color, 7000-7500сП/2%);
- medium-viscous profile of rheology FRAMILITE®В35 (white color, 10000-11000сП/2%);
- high-viscous profile of rheology FRAMILITE®В25 (white color, 16000-17000сП/2%).
